Broken, the power of fragment. Palazzo Strozzi Tour with Private Guide
From September 25, 2026 to January 24, 2027, Palazzo Strozzi hosts a major exhibition entitled “Broken, The Power of the Fragment.”
Join a private tour to discover this extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the fragment in the history of sculpture, on a fascinating journey through different periods, cultures, and artistic languages.
Organized in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the exhibition brings together over eighty artworks and artifacts from major international museums, spanning thousands of years of history: from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to the pre-modern cultures of Mexico, Mali, Peru, and Cambodia, and the great European masters such as Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo, and Rodin. The journey continues into contemporary art with works by artists including Louise Bourgeois, Francesco Vezzoli, and Danh Vo, as well as a new installation by Mark Manders, specially created for the Renaissance courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi.
The exhibition invites visitors to see the fragment not simply as part of a lost whole, but as an independent object, preserving traces of memory and transformation. Deliberate destruction, wars, revolutions, acts of vandalism, and natural disasters leave marks that become part of the artwork itself, transforming it into a powerful testimony that tells stories of the past while continuing to question and engage with our present.
