The museum is located inside a medieval palace, once head office of the military police. Today it hosts some important sculptures of the Renaissance, among which we find works by Donatello, Luca Della Robbia, Verrocchio, Michelangelo and Cellini. Moreover, inside the museum there is a collection of practical arts like majolica, waxes, glazes and tapestries. Our guide will begin in the yard of the Bargello where you will admire works by Ammannati, Giambologna and Benedetto da Maiano.
Passing through the Room of Medieval Sculpture where there is the “Tre Accoliti” group from Arnolfo di Cambio you will arrive at the Room of Michelangelo and the Sculpture of Sixteenth century.
The room has works of art of Michelangelo like the Baccus, the Tondo Pitti and the portrait of Brutus that, according to Vasari, it is the portrait of Lorenzino de’ Medici.
In the same room you find works of art from Giambologna, Baccio Bandinelli (Adam and Eve), Bartolomeo Ammannati and Benvenuto Cellini (Apollo e Giacinto, Perseus).
The room of Ivory presents Carrand’s collection, a French antique dealer that donated his collection to the city of Florence, collection enriched by products made of wood and leather.
The chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene was the place where the convicted had a pause during their path toward the gallows.  The chapel presents some frescos done by Giotto’s studio, it represents the stories of Mary Magdalene and the Last Judgement.
The room counting more visits is the Donatello’s room that contains a lot of works made by this artist, like the Saint George, the David in marble and bronze and the young Saint John. In the same room make sure you do not miss Isacco’s sacrifice by Lorenzo Ghiberti and Filippo Brunelleschi.
The loggia of the first floor (Verone) presents a fresco made by Gaetano Bianchi and has sculptures from the sixteenth century among which we find bronzes of animals made by Giambologna. These sculptures are coming from the cavern of Villa Medicea of Castello.
The Verrocchio’s room hosts the sculptures of the second half of the fifteenth century. Among the works by Verrocchio you will admire the David, the Madonna with the Child and other works of art by Mino from Fiesole and Benedetto from Maiano.
The last part of the visit regards the rooms dedicated to the Della Robbia brothers (Andrea and Giovanni) and the room of the baroque sculpture and the Medagliere.
