The paintings by Botticelli are displayed in rooms 10-14. They represent the height of the Uffizi collections. The large profane allegories painted for the Medici, with advice from the poet Poliziano, are the symbol of humanistic culture in the 15th century. With the Allegory of Spring (1478), Botticelli breaks with the tradition of religious paintings by interpreting the classics of Ovid and Lucretius, without, however, lacking realism, as can be seen in the way he paints flowers. Actually, he represents nearly two hundred species found in springtime on the Florentine hills. The Birth of Venus (painted perhaps in 1482>), depicts the goddess landing on the island of Citera. The light colours make the canvas look like a fresco. The Adoration of the Magi (1475) was painted for the Cappella Lami in Santa Maria Novella and is a public declaration of homage to Lorenzo the Magnificent and his family.
